Omar Lopez Valle was born in Havana
and started playing the trumpet at the early age of 7, taught by
his grandfather, Nilo Valle Herrera, renowned master trumpeter in
the great Cuban tradition.
His professional career started when he was seventeen with the well
known orchestra of Pacho Alonso and thereafter Omar became one of
Cuba’s most respected trumpet players. In 1991, Omar toured
Europe for the first time with the Cuban band Los Dadas and subsequently
established himself in Vienna where he lived for three years. During
that time the opportunity arose for Omar to appear with the greatest
diva of Cuban music Celia Cruz and the ‘King’ Tito Puente
at the Wiesen Jazz Festival. In 1994, he moved to Italy, and in
Rome he worked with Brazilian maestro Claudio Roditi and later with
pianist Danilo Perez, drummer Ignacio Berroa and finally with Paquito
D’Rivera and the United Nation Orchestra. Omar is a powerful
and lyrical brass player equally adept on trumpet and flugel horn.
